6 Week skills based jewellery making course. This course is perfect for learning basic stone setting techniques and is a fun way to get a good grounding in bezel, flush and tube setting types.

It’s a skills based course focusing on understanding stone setting rather than completing a set number of items – although you can come away with the pieces you make. The course focuses on working with metal rather than wax, showing participants how to construct items and use the metal to set the stone.

This course is designed as a follow on from our beginners course but you don’t have to have done it to participate. It’s for anyone who wants to start adding gemstones to their work. You can come to us from another course, after a workshop, or if you’re making at home and want a little guidance and support or to troubleshoot.

You will have a selection of cabochons to choose from for bezel setting but if you do want to bring your own or some sea glass you are welcome to. There will also be a small range of round brilliant cut CZ’s for flush and tube setting that are included in the course fee with options to purchase natural stones from the studio.  We start with regular flush setting of round stones as this is the most accessible, if you would like to set irregular shaped cut gemstones please contact us directly.

Silver is an extra charge on weight, all other materials are included as well as handouts and supplier lists.

Please note the dates listed are the starting dates of the course, not the class days. Course classes are held at the same time every week.

Venue accessibility

A member of staff will need to open the door for you as you arrive, so please do let us know to expect you. There is a gentle ramp from the doorway into the venue tested by a self-propelled wheelchair user who had no issues navigating it solo.

The floor is smooth and we leave plenty of room to navigate the space. Our workshop table heights have been chosen with chair users in mind and a floor plan available on request.

We do not have an official disabled toilet but it is very roomy. There is a small bump to roll over on the way into the back of the venue, it should be easy enough to roll over in a  chair, as it is in a doorway, but we are happy to help you if needed.

We can offer you a more accessible clamp tool set-up to help you if you have arthritis /  weaker hand strength

We are happy to lower our music for you if you need, but in general we keep it at an ambient level for comfort.

Jewellery making and silversmithing is a physical craft and we would like to support you as much as possible in getting the outcome you are hoping for.

If you require extra assistance with using tools please let us know in advance and we are happy to prepare and research alternatives if needed.

We offer discounts on workshops where we can based on mutual aid and self-declaration. These are available via our YUUP booking system.
