Two Bristol independents come together for a cosy evening wax carving and learning how to make jewellery in your favourite local tap room. Sip signature beer or a glass of wine and learn about the ancient process of lost wax. What better way to spend a Thursday night?

Rebecca and Beth from Silver & Steel will guide participants through the process of carving your very own jewellery. Think signet rings, botanical pendant designs or celestial stackers. Anything 3d you can think of we can help you to make.

What we will cover:
– What is jewellers wax, and how to you turn it into silver and gold jewellery.
– Carve your very own designs from signet rings, to charms to pendants – anything you want! We recommend coming with an idea but if you don’t then no worries, it’s also fun to experiment.

What’s included:
– A medium glass of wine or a beer from the bar or a soft drink
– Wax materials and tutoring from Bristol’s highest rated jewellery studio

Please note:
There is no pressure to spend more money and have your pieces cast, however if you do want them turned into wearable jewellery there are other costs which we will explain properly on the night. These are optional and include:

– Casting costs (depend on weight of your item). You can choose between Silver, Gold or Bronze for your jewellery and we don’t charge a mark-up, these are set by the casting house.
– Gold Plating
– A set finishing fee of £25 per person for us to finish the pieces in house for you (you can include as many items as you like)
– The option of Sand-casting and finishing them yourself in a drop in workshop.

Bethany May Silver
Bethany May
Founder of Silver & Steel, Beth is passionate about building for creativity, learning, and community for jewellers and crafters. Her teaching style is informal, warm and engaging and she loves introducing people to the craft. Bethany has a background teaching integrative curriculums and art abroad where she discovered a love of working creatively with others. In lockdown 2020 she was invited to teach some jewellery making workshops for a charity in Brighton and the genesis of Silver & Steel was born. She developed a simple and accessible format and started taking it to pop up venues around Bristol when people were allowed to gather again, but she realised that Bristol lacked a suitable space for teachers to be hosted. She's taught all ages, skill levels and backgrounds and loves seeing people who have never used tools before being empowered to create something precious.
